USA Yoga is a non-profit organization committed to developing and promoting Yoga Asana (yoga postures) as a sport.
The rules for championship competition are developed and reviewed by expert teachers and coaches from around the world who serve on the IYSF Technical Committee. The rules are designed to challenge competitors for technique and presentation. Qualifiers are open to yoga practitioners from any yoga school or lineage. All are encouraged to participate. The paths are many, the sport is one.
Focus Bryn Mawr has a specific team that competes in the USA Yoga competitions. Each athlete works on specific poses to challenge themselves for alignment, technique and presentation for what works with their body. The Focus USA Yoga team travels to competitions* during the winter season, ending with the championship in April 2025.
*Dates are determined by the coaches of the team at beginning of the season
Practices are held every other Sunday (the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month) starting November 3rd, 2024. During these hour-long practices, participants will learn the postures, rules, and other details for the competitions. This program will build a supportive community within the team and the competitions.
DO I HAVE TO COMPETE RIGHT AWAY?
No you do not have to start competing right away. We encourage you to come to a USA Yoga practice to see what the Focus USA Team is and what it is about.
HOW OFTEN ARE PRACTICES?
Like a traditional sport, the more time you put into your craft the better you become. It is recommended to visit the studio at least once a week, including the Sunday practices. LOOK AT OUR CLASS SCHEDULE HERE.
